When building greenhouses, why can't the shed be dug too deep?

09-07-2024

In the process of building greenhouse, it is a problem that needs attention to dig too deep inside the shed. Excessive digging in the shed may backfire and have a negative impact on the growth of vegetables.

1. The pursuit of greater economic benefits: some vegetable farmers choose to build higher greenhouses (some of which are more than 6 meters high) in order to increase production, so a large amount of earth is required for wall stacking, resulting in excessive digging. 2. Misunderstanding the insulation effect: some vegetable farmers think that the deeper the dig, the better the insulation effect, and even establish a "ground kiln" vegetable greenhouse up to 2.5 meters deep, however, this understanding is one-sided, because the insulation effect does not only depend on the depth of the dig. 3. Consideration of saving labor and time: in the process of building the shed, in order to save labor and time, some shed builders directly dig soil from the shed, and do not use the soil in front of the shed, although this practice seems to be efficient in the short term, it ignores the height difference between the shed and the surface in front of the shed.

2.The harm of digging too deep in the shed:(1)The formation of shade belt: too deep digging will form a long shade belt in front of the shed, resulting in the growth of vegetables in the area due to low temperature, but also affect photosynthesis.(2)Soil quality decline: After digging down, the mature soil of the original surface is used for the wall, leaving behind low-quality raw soil, which leads to low organic matter content of the soil, lack of beneficial microorganisms, and poor permeability, thus affecting plant growth. (3) Affect crop growth in shallow groundwater level areas: For shallow groundwater level areas, too deep digging will lead to plant root disease, such as retting and dead tree phenomenon, causing economic losses to farmers.

3.Greenhouses construction when digging how many meters suitable? In the construction of greenhouses, reasonable digging depth is very important. In general, the use of steel pipe skeleton greenhouse, the higher column in the shed is selected to be 5.8 meters (including 60 centimeters buried), the height of the back wall is about 4.5 meters, and the depth of digging in the shed should be maintained between 0.5 and 1.2 meters. The soil for the wall should also be dug from the front of the shed, and the depth of the dig depends on the situation, generally more than 0.5 meters. In this way, the depth of the front face of the greenhouse can be no more than 0.6 meters to reduce the area of the shade belt, while maintaining the insulation performance of the shed. In practice, farmers should flexibly adjust the digging depth according to the local terrain, soil and climate conditions. For areas with low groundwater level and shallow soil layer, semi-underground or ground kiln vegetable greenhouses should be avoided so as not to affect the normal growth of plants.
